A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, UK says that prolonged sitting in the office for 11 hours or more on a daily basis may be at increased risk of developing coronary heart disease by 67 %. When one sits long hours in the office the anti-gravity blood circulation to the heart reduces due to lack of calf muscle exercise. The calf muscle is often regarded as secondary heart. The calf muscle pumps the blood against the gravity supplying necessary oxygenation to the heart when one walks or does yoga or exercise.
Therefore yoga, exercise or walking is very essential for heart’s sound health.
The office yoga practices involve meditation to release the stress, breathing exercises for proper oxygenation, yoga postures to mobilise lower body as well as upper body for proper blood circulation and guided relaxation techniques to relax the body as well as the mind.
Due to the pressure of workload, deadlines, constant sitting, one may dream of escaping for good, but a more realistic approach is to find ways to cope that and ease one’s feelings of stress and strain with the practice of Office Yoga which helps one to feel happier in the workplace.
You may wish to introduce office yoga one hour daily in your company from Monday to Friday or 3 days a week on alternate days. The duration might range from 1 month to 12 months depending on your requirements.
